Central to the DCSPCA mission is the securing of caring, responsible, permanent homes for the adoptable animals in our care. The Dutchess County SPCA adopts out over 1,500 pets each year into loving homes. We look forward to meeting new adopters and matching them with a new companion.
The Adoption Process
Please review the pet profiles below. This list is automatically updated to show all of the currently available pets.
After you’ve chosen a pet from those listed, complete the online adoption form in your chosen pet’s profile. The application helps our adoption counselors assist adopters in the selection of a new pet, and allows us to determine whether an adoption is in the animal’s best interest.
Once you’ve submitted your application, an adoption counselor will review it, checking your references. You will receive an e-mail at the conclusion of the review. If approved, you can visit the shelter during our open walk-in hours to meet the pet you are interested in meeting.
Please note, during COVID, we found a quiet shelter greatly reduced anxiety in our animals. When you visit, you will be escorted through the shelter by a member of staff to view appropriate animals that meet your search criteria.
