The Dutchess County SPCA received a donated upgrade to its propane heating systems that will save the non-profit over $10,000 in the first year in energy costs. In replacing old equipment and installing new underground propane lines, tanks, and other energy saving equipment, the DCSPCA will potentially save tens of thousands of dollars over the coming years in energy costs. The equipment and service, along with a donation of 1,000 gallons of propane, was provided by Gardiner, NY-based Kimlin Energy Services as part of its ongoing community commitment to animal welfare. The propane will be used for heat and operations.
The COVID-19 crisis has hit non-profits especially hard, with fewer donations and limited opportunities for fundraising. The DCSPCA’s mission however continues in securing caring, responsible homes for adoptable animals, as does its humane law and telemedicine services. Helping to rescue pets in communities hard hit by the virus, where animals have been left homeless, has become a key challenge for the organization during this unprecedented time. The fuel donation will help DCSPCA continue in those efforts.
“The current times have brought new challenges to our organization, including the complications of outreach and fundraising” says Lynne Meloccaro, Executive Director of the DCSPCA. “Kimlin’s generous donation of service, equipment and fuel helps us not only in taking care of the immediate challenges, but enables us to implement new initiatives planned at our location, including the relocation of our Thrift Store to our main location – a key goal we have had for several years” says Meloccaro.
According to Max Kimlin, president of Kimlin Energy Services, “Our company is incredibly pleased to be able to help during these difficult times. The care and safety of animals is part of who we are at our family-owned business. Our company will continue to make commitments to Hudson Valley animal welfare organizations to help in the current challenges and beyond” he added.
The Dutchess County SPCA is located at 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park. Donations may be made online to support their mission of finding caring, responsible, permanent homes for adoptable animals, in addition to serving the community in a host of ways, at dcspca.org.
