The 4-month-old puppy who arrived at DCSPCA with severe head injuries is now a happy 1-year-old.
You may remember Moo. When Moo arrived at Dutchess County SPCA as a 4-month-old puppy, we werenât sure he was going to make it. He had been found wandering in a field, injured and alone. He was brought to us with a grossly swollen head and misaligned jaw, due to a traumatic injury. But Mooâs positive spirit was fully intact, and he came through his treatments with flying colors. When Dan met Moo, he saw that strong spirit shining through the pain of the young puppyâs injuries, and soon the two were inseparable. Three months after Moo arrived at the shelter, he became a permanent member of Danâs family.
We bonded right away, and I would take him everywhere with me, so I asked to foster him while he was undergoing medical treatment for his injury.
DCSPCA: What was your first impression of Moo when you met him?
Dan:Â That he had a unique and loving personality. He had a severe injury when I first met him but was still happy, wiggly, and loved attention.
DCSPCA: Why did you volunteer to foster him?
Dan:Â We bonded right away and I would take him everywhere with me, so I asked to foster him while he was undergoing medical treatment for his injury. He needed a lot of X-rays and testing. I also wanted to socialize him since he was so young when he entered the shelter. We'd go to stores, and Moo would love to meet everyoneâhe really loved going to Starbucks.
DCSPCA: What inspired you to adopt Moo?
Dan:Â After fostering him for a month, I knew I didn't want to give him back. We became so close, and he had separation anxiety, so I did a little rearranging at home and filled out the paperwork.

DCSPCA: How has Moo settled into your home?
Dan:Â He took over the house right away. He's got a bed in my room and the living room, but he only likes the couch. He wanders around freely and observes the cats. He likes them, but they aren't his biggest fans.
DCSPCA: What are some of his favorite things or activities?
Dan:Â Eating is his favorite. He knows every spot that has food or treats stored and waits at the pantry door. He also loves napping and, like a teenager, gets grumpy when he is woken up. He usually gives me a sigh and a stare when I have to wake him up. He does love toys as well. Anything with a squeaker will keep him busy for hours.

DCSPCA: How has Moo changed as heâs gotten older?
Dan:Â The only thing that's changed is his size. He doesn't know it, though, and insists on being a lap dog.
DCSPCA: Is there anything else youâd like to share about adopting Moo?
Dan:Â Moo loves cheese and is afraid of images of cats.
