Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Assistant – Full Time

Dutchess County SPCA is an independent, non-profit organization with a long-standing track record of serving animals and people for nearly 150 years.
Care for and treat shelter and owned companion animals. We operate a low cost wellness clinic for area pet owners as well as provide shelter support for the animals in our immediate and surrounding areas. Ensure medical areas are clean, sanitary and a safe environment for animals under care. Manage and order clinic and surgical medications and supplies.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Animal Health: Perform vital functions including, but not limited to medical exams, medical treatments, feeding, administering SQ and IM injections, phlebotomy, animal restraint, surgery monitoring, surgery preparation and recovery.
Maintenance and Cleaning: Maintain surgical and hospital areas in a clean and sanitary manner. Clean and disinfect cages and kennels according to official protocol, clean and prepare surgical packs, including the operation of an autoclave. Place needed supplies on the weekly order list. Stock work stations with supplies necessary for the next shift.
Record Keeping: Record and maintain accurate and complete animal health records and other pertinent information manually, in the computer data base, and on treatment boards.
Customer Service: Value customer service as a priority. Educate clients concerning animal health, vaccine protocol, and other information as needed. Relay post-operative care for surgical patients upon release.
Safety: Handle animals safely and humanely using proper restraint techniques. Demonstrate understanding of animal diseases and transmission to other animals and people. Ensure the safety of the work environment by communicating with co-workers, veterinarians, managers, and clients.
Positive Public Image and Education: Demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy to members of the public, co-workers, and volunteers. Treat all animals, both at work and at home, in a humane manner.
Veterinary Assistant Certificate or RVT preferred.
At least 2+ years of paid experience caring for animals in a medical setting.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent writing and record keeping skills.
Excellent computer and software skills.
Is a team player and is willing to jump in and help in any area if needed.
